LymphedemaLymphedema

Upper extremity lymphedema is a potentially serious consequence of breast cancer after mastectomy. It is a medical condition that may develop due to stagnation of high protein fluid in body tissue that causes complications such as swelling, pain and loss of function. Therapy can be beneficial to these patients to educate them regarding their condition and prevention of further complications. Manual lymphatic drainage techniques and therapeutic exercises can be utilized to stimulate flow of lymphatics. The patient will be taught a specific home exercise program to manage the condition.
