Pilates

PRS has a Pilates based rehabilitation in our Overland Park clinic (75th and Antioch). This means patients will be utilizing the Pilates equipment and Pilates based exercises for home exercise programs. Patients may also choose to participate in Pilates classes if they wish to do so. This is in addition to our already successful manual therapy and therapeutic exercise approach.

Appropriate patients for Pilates:

  • Neck, mid and low back
  • Pre and post surgical back patients
  • Knees pre and post surgery
  • Shoulders pre and post surgery
  • Hips, including post surgical
  • Ankles, feet
  • Neurologic (CVA, GBS, MS, etc)

Advantages of Pilates Equipment

  • Variability of the equipment allows for assistance to be provided to patients that otherwise would not be able to access certain functional movements
  • Variability of equipment also allows for an altered amount of resistance to be provided for strengthening challenge and progression
  • Due to the equipment structure, many functional activities can be addressed more effectively
  • Alignment and execution of movements can be stressed due to open and closed

Benefits

  • More successful attainment of true “core stability”
  • Provides clinical challenge that not only can not be addressed at home, but also enhances home exercises and correct execution of ADLs.
  • Accessibility to deeply deconditioned or patients in wheelchairs

Advantages of PRS

  • High quality of patient care always one on one sessions
  • Access to talented and competent physical therapists
  • Timely appointment scheduling for patients
  • Regular correspondence with Physician offices and therapists
